So i saw Max Payne yesterday and i really did enjoy it. For what it was and sadly it wasn’t really all that much. Most of the best parts, visually and storywise are revealed in the trailer and you get that impression pretty quickly.
The story was solid and the writing was amazing, for what there was. It was thinly spread over the 100 minues and i could have napped in the middle and not missed much of what was happening. I would have probably enjoyed it more if the villain wasn’t quite so obvious (There was one surprise but it was small) and if there had been more substance to the actual story.
Mila Kunis’ character Mona was a pointless waste of time and the only real reason to have her there was to see the sexy, sassy Ukrainian speaking russian, rocking the heavy fire power and dressed in skin tight blackness. I would have understood the story exactly the same if she wasn’t there.
Mark Wahlberg still hasn’e earned his “Mothing fucking” middle name yet and it doesn’t seem he will any time soon either.
The two very small splatterings of Bullet time were good except where the second one was ruined by an explosion of blue liquid that was as pointless as Mona. I would much rather have been watching Max Payne doing his slow motion back dive to shoot the baddie with his signature shotgun.
As for the basis of what makes Max Payne, Max Payne… the scenes with his wife were emotionless and dull, the game made me feel more sorry for him than watching it on the movie screen. He just didn’t seem as heart broken or as torn down as his game counterpart.
Not that i didn’t enjoy it but i had to wait too long for violence that was over too fast.
More story, action and pain (Payne) and less empty shots filled ocasionally by pointless dialouge- i get it, it’s snowing.
